At the centre of this movement is the Anglican Cathedral of St Andrew in the capital, Asunción, where there is a large youth ministry including an outreach programme to schools in the city.
The cathedral has had to be rebuilt due to decay in the original building. Holy Trinity has supported this rebuilding and has forged a close link with St Andrew's, which was strengthened when a former bishop from Asunción came to visit us in Ripon.
The project has been running for 2 years; building work is virtually complete but more is needed in terms of acoustic panels, a sound system, chairs, and external work (noise pollution is a big problem because of traffic). A sound system may not seem like a critically important aspect - but it means that the church can do more outreach work, holding concerts and hosting weddings.
The cathedral has an important ministry among street children, as well as bringing unchurched youth to God. The recent building work, which Holy Trinity has supported, provides vital employment for builders, roofers, carpenters, painters, electricians, plumbers, tilers, gardeners and maintenance people - all of whom are exposed to the witness and ministry of the cathedral.
