24-hour Music-A-Thon '06

Our second 24-hour music marathon has been judged a huge success. Over 300 children, teenagers and adults sang and played as 48 different acts took to the stage throughout the day and night!

Musical content
Elegant piano pieces by Liszt were followed by energetic performances of Wild Thing, a sing-a-long of Angels and a special performance by the Hornblower in an event which left no musical style unplayed. And throughout the night, a hard core of volunteers The Arches rocking non-stop until dawn, when musicians took over upstairs in the church.

Money raised
The collection boxes jingled with donations which, added to money collected at a supermarket bag-packing, brought the fantastic total to £1700.

As promised, every penny of the money collected will be split 50/50 between Ripon Hospital League of Friends and the Christina Noble Charitable Foundation, which helps abandoned street children in Mongolia .

Thanks to everyone involved

- from those who played and sang to everyone who made breakfast, and to everyone who came along - including The Mayor of Ripon, Cllr John Stockdale, who opened proceedings. Special praise must also go to Ripon City Music and Sainsbury's for playing their part in this marathon event.
