Exodus is a community for young people in school years 10-13, meeting Sunday mornings and evening for discussion, study, fellowship and fun. All are welcome.
The group meets every second and third Sunday
morning in The Arches, during the 10:30am service, and every Sunday evening at 7:45 at the Pavillion, High Sharow, Ripon. |
Mornings
This is a topic-led discussion group - looking at anything and everything which may affect or concern young people. From shopping to music to forgiveness to the end times, no question is left unasked. Videos, music, making stuff (like a huge ark out of cardboard boxes), play-doh... whatever you'll end up doing, there are always lots of laughs as well as serious content.
Evenings
The Sunday evening sessions usually involve 15 minutes' social time to catch up with the week's news (we would never call it gossip...), followed by an hour of bible study & discussion. The topics vary - from a study of a gospel to discussions on the morality of war, our responsibility for the developing world and the effects of money and power on the modern society. The evening finishes off with half an hour of social time and ends at 9.30pm.

Fun stuff!
The group also organises weekends away - usually to a centre in the Yorkshire Dales, with activities such as walking, football, rounders and a themed bible study. We also have regular socials, such as pizza and film evenings, visits to the cinema and also a Christmas party. Some members enjoy working on the church's sound desk.
Overseas mission
Some of our young people went on an overseas mission to Malawi in 2005. Seven young people, two leaders and the vicar worked hard to raise funds to go out to a mission hospital in Blantyre (part of our overseas tithe). The group helped to put the finishing touches to the houses and gardens of the new development. They also had a chance to visit the hospital, interact with the children there, and travel around the country (including a safari!). The opportunity to worship and share fellowship with Christians on the other side of the world was very rewarding. See pictures...
