Some members of Holy Trinity have been inspired to pursue their learning in theology, either out of interest or with a view to a career in ministry. Here are four of their stories:

| I'm studying for a Diploma in Theology and Ministry at Cranmer Hall, part of St John's College, Durham. This term the course includes modules in Biblical Studies, Mission, Preaching and Presentation, and Christian Spirituality. There is a mixture of Methodists, Anglicans and independent students and we also share some courses with Usher College, the Roman Catholic seminary. ‘Formation for Ministry' is an important element of the training and I have a commitment to be at morning prayer at 8am(!) every day and at the evening services. We also share meals as a community and meet in smaller groups for prayer and to prepare the evening services. |

I am doing a degree course in Theology and Ministry at the College of York St John - part of the University of Leeds. The first four years lead to a foundation degree and the fifth leads to a BA. Its very part time. I'm in my second year - it's a long-term project. Shirley Noake's husband Richard is the director of the programme at York. I find it very fulfilling and enjoyable, and enjoy studying. I'm genuinely interested in the academic side of faith - it helps me to understand. Not the least reason for missing David Mann is that he has a real depth of academic knowledge and has been wonderful to debate/argue with. |

| I am studying (part-time) through distance learning and residential weeks with Cliff College for a Diploma in Youth Mission and Ministry. This is a two-year course requiring a minimum of 100 hours' volunteer service a year and is validated through Manchester University. I am called to serve Christ through young people and this course will help to equip me for that purpose. I understand there will be an opportunity to progress onto a degree level course, but one bridge at a time! |

I have completed a course in Diploma in Theology and Ministry over 3 years part-time with NEOC (North East Oecumenical Course). The course is mainly for ordinands (Anglican, Methodist and URC) but I, along with 1 other person, did it as an independent student ie a lay person, not sponsored by a particular denomination. After several people strongly suggested that I seek ordination, I attended a bishops' advisory panel in June and have been accepted. I will be ordained next summer and meanwhile will be undertaking yet more studies in preparation. |
