Experimenting with acoustics

If your recent visit to Holy Trinity surprised you with the sight of huge strips of carpet underlay hanging from our walls, don't worry - we haven't just been to IKEA. (See pictures below).

This is part of an experiment to improve the quality of sound in the building; if we can do so by using sound baffles (for which the underlay is a next-best-thing trial), this will be a much less expensive option than a new PA system. However, permanent sound baffles would still prove expensive, and difficult to effect in a way that preserves the look of the building.

So for the last few Saturdays, our regular work parties have devoted themselves to putting up the underlay to see what the effect would be.

The overwhelming majority of the feedback we got as a result of hanging the underlay was favourable: almost everyone thought that our ministers and speakers were easier to hear.

We still welcome your feedback: please email Tim Scholes or call him on 600633.
