7Underground: café church

What is it?
It's 'messy' church, café-style... sit on a chair or a beanbag, or stand if you prefer. There are nibbles on the tables and you're encouraged to help yourself to a hot drink whenever you feel like it. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate.

Who's it for?
Absolutely anyone. We have teenagers right through to the 80-somethings. Everyone's welcome - although you might prefer our 9am or 10:30am services if you like things a bit more formal. Feel free to make this your main service of the week, or to pop in whenever it feels right. Bring a friend!

Is it a 'proper' church service?
Yes, it is - it's led by a member of our clergy. Each week the service is built round a Bible passage: one week, after a shorter time together, everyone breaks into smaller groups and uses the passage to plan and put together the 'delivery' service for the following week. Week 2 is when we all come together for a full sermon and to share what we've prepared - from food to prayer, drama to music, Bible study to interactive activity, and more. That means lots of people get to be involved in working out the passage in their own way - a way which may be freshly helpful to others. Then the following week we go back to planning again.

What's the music like?
There's a small band with a big sound... lively contemporary favourites + more contemplative choruses. Brian Shaw is the leader and his style is definitely more on the jazz & blues side.

Is there communion?
At this point in time, 7Underground is not a communion service. There is also no collection taken.

Where & when?
Downstairs in The Arches at Holy Trinity, 7pm, every Sunday evening until about 8:15/8:30.
